What am I doing?

20 Jan

Well it was weigh in day yesterday…..I lost another kilo (yayyy) but then proceeded to have a day where the new eating plan went out the window!!! Wow, how quickly do we fall off the wagon? I guess the only thing to do now is to put it behind me and climb back on, so today I am starting over….I got to bed early last night so I am not nearly so tired today and that should make it easier to stick with it. As I’ve said before when I’m tired I eat :(. Hopefully Damien (the 2 year old) will be better behaved today, he was completely over the top yesterday) That might have had something to do with the fact that the 21 year old managed to feed him a whole piece of hedgehog slice….you have no idea how much sugar and chocolate there is in that!….So Damien was nutso all day, he drove me and his brothers and sisters crazy!

I have still been working on some crochet patterns, the 3 tests I started are nearly finished, so I will soon have 3 different patterns ready to publish. I am working on a lovely lacy purple shrug at the moment. I was really lucky the other day, I dropped into one of our local thrift shops and there on the shelf was a cone of the most gorgeous purple yarn….I am 90% sure it is a silk/linen blend of some kind…..It looks very much like some of the yarns I buy from Colourmart they have gorgeous yarns at such a reasonable price, free shipping too! Anyway unfortunately there are absolutely no identifying marks so my chances of working out exactly what this is are very small. I am going back to the same shop tomorrow as there were some other cones of yarn there too but I only had enough money with me for the one….I hope the fine gauge of the yarn has put people off buying them!

This is the yarn, although it looks more blue in this picture, may camera has a terrible time photographing purple! IMG_2199

Pattern testing.

12 Nov

I have finished the Infinity Scarf that I showed you in my ‘sneak peak’ the other day. Here is the finished item, I haven’t taken proper modelled shots yet but I think you can get the idea.

I have set up a pattern test over on Ravelry so that I can have the pattern tested then published. Hopefully, barring any unforeseen problems it will be ready to go in a couple of weeks. I always love pattern tests, I get to meet so many different people and learn so much when I am running them. I met Opal who has a blog over here during a pattern test and since then she has tested a few of my designs! It is wonderful to be able to ‘meet’ people from all over the world. If you are interested in testing pop over and join us.

After I have finished with this today I am off to look at dining room sets with my husband again….that will be fun! We are taking to two year old again as well, although he had a good nights sleep last night so hopefully our experience will be better than the last time…lol.

Shopping.

5 Nov

Now yesterday I mentioned that I was going shopping for a lounge suite….which turned into shopping for dining furniture as well. I discovered something (a couple of things really) that I should have known already!

The first and most important is that you should never go furniture shopping with a 2 year old! I should have remembered this one from having 8 kids….my only excuse is that there is 7 years between this 2 year old and my last, I am sure this one is noisier, more energetic, more easily bored and naughtier than all the others. Then again I may just be getting old! I no longer have the ability to concentrate on what I’m doing while the 2 year old is squealing in the background about how he wants a balloon…and then squealing in the background because his balloon escaped and floated to the ceiling……then trying to topple his stroller so he can get out and sit on all the furniture…then…well you get the picture.

The second is that I should shop without my husband! While we could agree on the lounge we wanted, once we progressed to dining sets we were never going to agree…..You see I really like the distressed looking solid timber and my husband hates it with a passion 🙂 He loves solid timber but he wants it all nice and shiny and smooth…..not at all practical in a household of 9 (to my mind anyway). You see I like the distressed look because it kind of matches the house…it’s very distressed looking. It will also absorb all the extra knocks and bumps that will come from our mob here without looking like someone decided to take it out in the back yard and bash it with a baseball bat…because it already looks like it has been bashed with a baseball bat…..now I just have to convince him of that. I almost had it yesterday when I suggested that after a few years we could sand it back and make it all shiny and new again…then the 2 year old started wailing and it was all over :/. He also likes a red coloured stain and I like something a little more neutral, I guess at least we can agree on timber…lol.

The upshot of all this is that we came home yesterday with nothing more than a stressed out, cranky 2 year old who was accompanied by a couple of stressed out, cranky middle aged parents…back to the lounge suite shopping tomorrow now. Wish me luck 🙂
